Pain during pregnancy

Pregnancy is a time of enormous change for a mother’s body.  Some mothers’ experience increasing lower back and pelvic pain as the baby increases in size. Hormonal changes can leave the expectant mother fatigued, also  causing  ligaments to soften, to loosen the pelvis   for the birth of the baby.  The body’s centre of gravity shifts down and forward, putting more strain and mechanical stress on the whole body.   Osteopathy works to reduce muscle tension and stabilize the pelvic joints to accommodate the changing posture.  Regular treatment as the pregnancy progresses can assist the mother to prepare for labour. Treatment in the twelve weeks after birth can assist in altered body alignment through ligament looseness, this is the time that the body is stiffening up post pregnancy.
